About the Recovery Center

The Older Adult Recovery Center (OARC), located in Chelsea, Michigan, is a program of Chelsea Community Hospital. It is specifically designed to meet the needs of older adults. Often times, older adults have unique issues with respect to their age group, and can benefit from being in a program with their peers who may be dealing with similar concerns such as health, retirement, depression, or other issues. The OARC program provides older adults with the opportunity to share common experiences and potential solutions for their problems.

Since older adults are a unique population, the program incorporates some unique features such as involving “graduates” of the program as “peer counselors.” Peer counselors are older adults who have successfully completed the OARC program and have become hospital volunteers trained to assist clients of the OARC program. The peer counselors can be particularly helpful for program clients as they have “been there” and are successfully recovering from substance abuse.

If you are an older adult considering treatment, or are a concerned family member, it may be encouraging to know that even though older adults sometimes have difficulty in asking for help, once they do, they tend to have relatively favorable success rates— particularly if they are in a program for older adults such as the OARC.

OARC accepts Medicare and many health insurances.
