EATING RIGHT, SENIOR STYLE

Port Huron, MI…Learning to cook for two or less people. This can result in cooking and wasting too much food. Also, as aging progresses, your body requires different nutritional needs; it can be difficult to change your meals to meet this new need.

To help area seniors learn about nutrition and cooking, St. Joseph Mercy is pleased to offer, “Eating Right, Senior Style”, offered in partnership with the St. Clair County Michigan State Extension Service.

Through this six-month course, seniors will learn how to stretch their food budget, how to plan, shop and cook meals for one or two and how to enhance food flavor. Seniors will also learn how to make their kitchen more user-friendly and how to grow their own in-a-container garden. They will also participate in food tasting and creating their own make and take activities.

Beginning June 4, 2013, the six-month program will be held Tuesdays: June 4, July 2, Aug. 6,
Sept. 3, Oct. 1, Nov. 5, 2013 from 11 to 12 p.m., in the First floor conference room at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, 2601 Electric Avenue in Port Huron. “Eating Right, Senior Style” requires a commitment to attend all classes. Participants will receive a MSU certificate and graduation celebration with gifts to those who complete the series.
