St. Joseph Mercy is also the first hospital in the state of Michigan to launch MAKOplasty® robotic assisted total hip replacement surgery service, designed to treat patients with Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD). SJMPH and its experienced team of clinical care staff have performed hundreds of the procedures since the program began in July 2010.
MAKOplasty®, powered by the RIO® Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopedic system, provides the Blue Water area's only extensive surgeon assisted robotic surgery programs dedicated to orthopedics. Featured medical speaker, Edward Nebel, MD, is a board certified orthopedic surgeon, who has been practicing in Port Huron since 1976. Dr. Nebel's practice concentrates on arthroscopic knee surgeries, as well as partial and total knee and hip replacements with greater than 300 cases performed per year.
