Article

Port Huron, MI…Alan Kuester, DO, was named the April 2011 St. Joseph Mercy Patient-Focused Physician of the Month. The St. Joseph Mercy Patient-Focused Physician of the Month award highlights a physician’s commitment to working collaboratively to promote patient and community health through clinical excellence and patient-focused care. Physicians honored with this award must also be one whom St. Joseph Mercy Hospital staff and volunteers would recommend to family and friends in the community.

As a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN), Dr. Kuester of Blue Water OB/GYN, provides care and treatment to women throughout the community. He was nominated for his example in providing emergent care to patients in need.

“As the on-call OB/GYN physician supporting the St. Joseph Mercy Emergency Services Department, Dr. Kuester immediately responded to a request by an emergency room physician by leaving his office to assume the care of a patient in pre-term labor,” comments his nominator. “Due to imminent delivery, Dr. Kuester continued to work collaboratively with the clinical team to provide specialized care to the patient and unborn child, working to ensure a successful outcome. I would refer friends and family to Dr. Kuester because he truly stands alone as an example of dedication to patients in the community. His care for patients is unmatched.”

“Dr. Kuester is a terrific asset to our health care community,” states Peter Karadjoff, St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron (SJMPH) President and CEO. “His outstanding performance has been noted by those who work most closely with him and has been highlighted through his nomination. I wish to extend my sincere appreciation to Dr. Kuester for elevating the health status of our community through his work and dedication to the patients at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.”

“I am very honored to have won this award,” comments Alan Kuester, DO. “Without the outstanding efforts of the St. Joseph Mercy Emergency Department staff and local EMS, my work would not have been possible. It is both gratifying and encouraging that we were able to work so well as a team, bettering the health care of our patients, friends and families.”

The St. Joseph Mercy Patient-Focused Physician of the Month is designed to highlight outstanding collaboration between our physician community and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital patient care and volunteer staff. Nominations are accepted from all staff and volunteers, and are blinded and reviewed by a Nominations Review Committee. The award is presented monthly to a physician on staff at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.
