Devprakash Samuel, MD, Named January 2011 Patient Focused Physician of the Month 01/28/2011 Port Huron, MI…Devprakash Samuel, MD, was named the January 2011 St. Joseph Mercy Patient-Focused Physician of the Month. The St. Joseph Mercy Patient-Focused Physician of the Month award highlights a physician’s commitment to working collaboratively to promote patient and community health through clinical excellence and patient-focused care. Physicians honored with this award must also be one whom St. Joseph Mercy Hospital staff and volunteers would recommend to family and friends in the community.
A neurologist with Blue Water Neurology Clinic, Dr. Samuel specializes in the care and treatment of patients with neurological problems and disease. He was nominated for his outstanding commitment to working within the clinical care team structure and his dedication to providing patient-focused care.
“Dr. Samuel goes beyond the expected while working within the team structure. He refers to staff by name, uses a gentle tone and always offers a sincere thank you when the mission of the patient is accomplished,” comments his nominator. “For clinical staff, Dr. Samuel has a way of encouraging assistance from staff in any way possible to assure that patients are well cared for and are comfortable. He is equally attentive to his patients, and enters quietly into patient rooms, ensures patient privacy and stays with the patient until there is a true understanding and all questions are answered. He sees each patient as a person. His clinical expertise is outstanding. He carefully and consistently reviews historical records and written reports; he examines and talks with the patients prior to making any type of assessment or diagnosis. Most of the time, you can find him in the hospital in the wee hours of the morning, pouring over his patients’ charts. He is truly dedicated to the needs of his patients to provide them with excellent, quality medical care. I would not hesitate to refer my family or friends to Dr. Samuel; and, as a matter of fact, I have because he is one of the most dedicated and highly proficient medical professionals we have on our team.”
“Dr. Samuel is a terrific asset to our health care community,” states Peter Karadjoff, St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron (SJMPH) President and CEO. “His outstanding performance has been noted by those who work most closely with him and has been highlighted through his nomination. I wish to extend my sincere appreciation to Dr. Samuel for elevating the health status of our community and being a physician whom St. Joseph Mercy Hospital staff and volunteers would recommend to their family and friends.”
“I gratefully accept this award and thank St. Joseph Mercy Hospital medical, nursing and administrative staff for their support,” comments Devprakash Samuel, MD. “I am thankful to have a dedicated office staff.
