Helping You Live Better: Freedom from Smoking 01/03/2011 ST. JOSEPH MERCY JOINS FORCES WITH YMCA TO PROVIDE AN ENHANCED SMOKING CESSATION PROGRAM
Port Huron, MI…It’s the New Year…time to quit smoking. For close to the cost of a carton of cigarettes, smokers can be smoke free in 2011. St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron and the YMCA of the Blue Water Area are teaming up to offer an enhanced seven-week smoking cessation program designed for people looking to kick the habit for good.
At the core of the program is the American Lung Association’s Freedom from Smoking Program. This systematic approach to quitting will help smokers develop a step-by-step plan of action leading up to quit day. It also provides the support needed to remain smoke free.
In addition, this newly enhanced program incorporates a wellness approach to dealing with other stresses such as weight gain, healthy living, physical activity and much more.
Participants will learn how to quit smoking from a respiratory therapy professional at St. Joseph Mercy and obtain wellness support from a YMCA-Certified Personal Trainer. During the seven-week program, the ultimate goal is to encourage participants to overcome the desire to smoke while enjoying better overall health.
The program will be held Mondays, from 6 to 8 p.m., beginning Monday, January 10, at the YMCA of the Blue Water Area, located at 1525 Third Street, Port Huron. The cost of the program is just $85 and can be paid directly to the YMCA. For more information and to register, please visit the YMCA at bluewaterymca.com, or call 810-987-6400.
