St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron to Host Freedom from Smoking Program 12/16/2009 Port Huron, MI…With the impending passage of the state of Michigan smoking ban in all bars and restaurants, and the opportunity of a new year on the horizon, now more than ever, community members are looking for ways to successfully kick the smoking habit. Just in time, St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron will offer the American Lung Association’s highly acclaimed Freedom from Smoking program.
The seven-week, eight-session programs will be held Mondays at 5:30 p.m., at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, located at 2601 Electric Avenue, Port Huron, and begins January 11, 2010, just in time to support any New Year’s resolutions to kick the habit for good.
“The Freedom from Smoking program provides the knowledge and support needed to quit and live without tobacco,” comments Jeff Rumery, Manager of Respiratory Therapy at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and the local program coordinator. “Based on the latest research on addiction and behavior change, this medically sound program addresses the difficulties of quitting with a sensitive and encouraging style. The ultimate goal is to help individuals overcome their addiction and enjoy the benefits of better health. Freedom from Smoking features a supportive group environment. Since no two smokers are alike, the program helps people develop a ‘quit plan’ that meets individual needs.”
The cost of the program is $60. The non-refundable fee is due at the first session. Preregistration is required. For more information and to register, please contact St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron at 810-966-3132.
