St. Joseph Mercy Names Associate of the Year 11/20/2009 Port Huron, MI…Heralded as an individual who is eager to volunteer, is concerned about others, and is a hard worker, St. Joseph Mercy Hospital is pleased to announce that Susan Thomas, RN, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), has been named the 2009 St. Joseph Mercy Associate of the Year.
The St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Associate of the Year is an employee recognition program that is held each year in September during Mercy Week, an annual celebration of the heritage of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.
During the week, 11 associates who have been designated as Associate of the Month, are considered for the annual award by all hospital staff, with the winner announced during a tea held in their honor.
Thomas, of Port Huron, who has been a St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Associate since 1995, was excited to hear about the award during the tea, “For the most part, I’m very honored and humbled by the award,” she explains. “This is such a great honor. I think a lot of everyone who works here at St. Joseph Mercy, and it’s nice to know that they think highly of me as well.”
Thomas’ nominator outlined her ability to meet the needs of the patients she works with, “She has sat with patients and consoled them, laughed with them and she understands them,” explains Thomas’ nominator. “I have witnessed Sue assisting an oncology patient with a shower, because he was too weak to walk or stand. Susan is an angel disguised as a nurse. I can always count on her to help me with anything.”
