Homeira McDonald, MD
Port Huron, MI…Homeira McDonald, MD, was named the November 2009 St. Joseph Mercy Patient-Focused Physician of the Month. The St. Joseph Mercy Patient-Focused Physician of the Month award highlights a physician’s commitment to working collaboratively to promote patient and community health through clinical excellence and patient-focused care. Physicians honored with this award must also be one whom St. Joseph Mercy Hospital staff and volunteers would recommend to family and friends in the community.

Dr. McDonald is a physician specializing in pathology and provides consultative services to patients through St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron. She was nominated for her outstanding expertise in the field of pathology and sharing her time, talents and wisdom with those both inside and outside the patient care team.

“Dr. McDonald is a physician who works behind the scenes as a pathologist and is known throughout the state of Michigan as one of the leading experts in the field of pathology. Although she doesn’t work directly with patients, she is one who is active and supportive of the hospital staff and activities and serves on or chairs many committees,” comments her nominator. “Whether you are a clinical or non-clinical staff member or are a physician, people flock to her for advice on many matters, including both personal and medical. Her door is always open and she is always available to provide support. Her kindness, compassion and sincerity are overwhelming and she is unselfish of her time and talents. I would recommend Dr. McDonald because her knowledge and experience are uncompromising. But, more importantly, because she is always willing to share her expertise with anyone who asks.”

“Dr. McDonald is a terrific asset to our health care community,” states Peter Karadjoff, St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron (SJMPH) President and CEO. “Her outstanding performance has been noted by those who work most closely with her and has been highlighted through her nomination. I wish to extend my sincere appreciation to Dr. McDonald for elevating the health status of our community and being a physician whom St. Joseph Mercy Hospital staff and volunteers would recommend to their family and friends.”

“I would like to thank the staff and volunteers at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital for nominating me for this award,” comments Homeira McDonald, MD, “and for giving me the opportunity to serve them, their family and friends.”

The St. Joseph Mercy Patient-Focused Physician of the Month is designed to highlight outstanding collaboration between our physician community and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital patient care and volunteer staff. Nominations are accepted from all staff and volunteers, and are blinded and reviewed by a Nominations Review Committee. The award is presented each month to a physician on staff at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.
