Of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
‘Caring for Yourself—Support for Your Journey’ Is Event Theme
Pontiac, Mich.—St. Joseph Mercy Oakland (SJMO) will commemorate National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October with an educational presentation and an art exhibit.
“Caring for Yourself—Support for Your Journey” will be presented from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, in the hospital’s Franco Communications Center, 44405 Woodward Ave., Pontiac, Mich. The special celebration will be an educational and inspirational evening for current breast cancer patients, survivors, family members, friends, anyone who has been touched by breast cancer and those who want to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Topics and speakers are:
Nutrition: Tom Rifai, MD, Medical Director, Metabolic Nutrition and Weight Management
Surgical Decision Making: Amy Kirby, MD, Medical Director, Breast Services
Support Services: Judie Goodman, DO, Medical Director, Oncology Services
The evening also will include hors d’oeuvres and desserts; an inspirational dance performance by The Zone Dance Center, Southfield; recognition of cancer survivors and an exhibition of the Lilly Oncology on Canvas Art Exhibit. The art exhibit will continue Oct. 19 through 26 within the hospital and in the Alice Gustafson Center lobby on the hospital campus. This national traveling exhibit features inspirational art created by cancer patients, their family members and their caregivers.
