St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Weight Management Program Offers Free Informational Seminars To The Community
Physician-Directed Seminar Aimed at Individuals Interested in Diabetes Prevention and Weight Management
Pontiac, Mich.—St. Joseph Mercy Oakland’s (SJMO) Metabolic Nutrition and Weight Management (MNWM) Program will offer free, public informational seminars on the following Tuesdays: Jan. 3, 10 and 24; Feb. 7 and 28; March 20; and April 10 and 24. The seminars will be held at 6 p.m. in the hospital’s Franco Communications Center, 44405 Woodward Ave., Pontiac.
The physician-directed seminars are for individuals interested in diabetes prevention or treatment, state-of-the-art lipid/cholesterol management and weight management.
The seminars are conducted by Tom Rifai, MD, Medical Director of the MNWM program. Dr. Rifai earned his medical degree at the Wayne State University School of Medicine. During his senior Internal Medicine residency year at Beaumont Hospitals he served as chief resident coordinator of its Nutrition, Preventive Medicine and Weight Control Center.
Dr. Rifai is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists and is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. In 2008, Dr. Rifai served as the Associate Medical Director for The Pritikin Longevity Center in Miami, Fla. Upon returning to Detroit, he designed a comprehensive metabolic gourmet menu—called Andiamo Lean—for the Andiamo Restaurant Group with the group’s executive chefs. He also helped the Warren Consolidated Schools launch an ultra-healthy lunch program.
Dr. Rifai’s specialties are nutrition, prevention of chronic disease, weight management, nutritional and medical management of insulin resistance, Type 2 diabetes, hyperlipidemia and obesity.
