ST. JOSEPH MERCY OAKLAND PRESENTS FREE, COMMUNITY DEPRESSION EDUCATION AND SCREENING EVENT
Psychologist to Speak; Mental Health Assessments Offered
Pontiac, Mich. - St. Joseph Mercy Oakland’s (SJMO) Department of Behavioral Medicine will present an education and screening event on depression from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011 in the hospital’s Franco Communications Center, 44405 Woodward Ave., Pontiac.
Donald E. Deering, PhD, counselor and psychologist, will give a presentation entitled, “Depression: Signs, Symptoms and Strategies for the Holidays.”
Dr. Deering is a behavior modification coach and specialist affiliated with SJMO. He earned his PhD degree in Psychology with a specialization in Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine at Northcentral University in Arizona and his master’s degree in Counseling with a specialization in Mental Health Counseling and Psychometrics at Oakland University. Board certified and licensed by the state of Michigan, Dr. Deering has many publications to his credit and has participated in research projects. He has received many honors and awards.
Dr. Deering will give his presentation at 11 a.m. Depression screenings will be available between noon and 3 p.m.
Admission is free, and walk-ins are welcome. Adults age 18 and older are invited. No registration is required. Dr. Deering, Behavioral Medicine social workers and registered nurses will provide assessments. Community resource information will be available. Light refreshments will be served.
