St. Joseph Mercy Oakland To Have Celebrity Guest Speakers At Annual Women’s Health Event

Journalist Lila Lazarus and ‘Biggest Loser’ Pete Thomas Are Special Guests

Pontiac, Mich.—St. Joseph Mercy Oakland (SJMO) announces journalist Lila Lazarus and Pete Thomas from NBC-TV’s “The Biggest Loser” will be the celebrity guests at the hospital’s annual Women’s Night Out, 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, at the Auburn Hills Marriott-Pontiac at Centerpoint, 3600 Centerpoint Pkwy., Pontiac.

Designed to educate women how to be and stay healthy, the evening will include an overview of women’s health and wellness services offered at SJMO to help women on their journey to improve their health and well-being. Guests will have the opportunity to attend workshops on health issues of interest to women.

An award-winning journalist, Lazarus has appeared on TV in Michigan, Maryland and Massachusetts as a news anchor and health reporter. Her professional accomplishments include covering Nelson Mandela’s inauguration in South Africa, receiving multiple Emmy Awards, the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Award, two Clarion Awards and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons Award twice.

Never afraid of a good challenge, Lazarus swam the Straits of Mackinac to raise money and awareness for Mentor Michigan. Each fall, she climbs from one end of the Grand Canyon to the other and back again. In 2007, Gov. Jennifer Granholm appointed her to the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness. An avid motorcyclist, Lazarus was named Michigan’s Ambassador of Motorcycle Safety.

She is active in community and charitable organizations, and serves on multiple boards. She has served as president of Kids Kicking Cancer and has been a Big Sister with Big Brothers/Big Sisters for 20 years.

Thomas, a former contestant on “The Biggest Loser,” lost the most weight of all the 2005 contestants—185 pounds. Since his weight loss success, Thomas has appeared on The View, The 700 Club and Extra and was featured in People magazine, Runners World, TV Guide, In Touch Weekly and Real Health. He has completed a full triathlon, full marathon and several half-marathons since his appearance on “The Biggest Loser.”

Based on personal experience and science, Thomas has developed and teaches a 10-week weight loss program, LoseItFastLoseItForever.com™, that’s helping people who are obese achieve a new lease on life. Thomas is a full-time motivational speaker who travels spreading his Winning Principles to organizations nationwide in conjunction with his Web site, www.WinningMan.com.

In addition to the breakout sessions, a strolling supper will be served, and a cash bar will be available. The evening will feature local vendors, and there will be drawings for gift baskets.

Admission fee is $25 per person, and the public is invited. Free parking is available.

A limited number of tickets are still available. To reserve a spot and register for two breakout sessions, call SJMO, 800-372-6094.
