St. Joseph Mercy Oakland To Host Annual Allen Silbergleit Clinic Day For Physicians
‘Managing Obesity: The 21st Century Pandemic’ Is Clinic Day Theme
Pontiac, Mich.—St. Joseph Mercy Oakland (SJMO) will host its 53rd Annual Allen Silbergleit, MD Clinic Day for physicians on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, in the hospital’s Franco Communications Center. Theme for the event is “Managing Obesity: The 21st Century Pandemic.”
Speakers and their topics are:
“Metabolic Syndrome in Adult Obesity Management and Co-Morbidities,” Osama Hamdy, MD, PhD, Medical Director, Obesity Clinical Program, Joslin Diabetes Center (Affiliated with Harvard Medical School);
“Surgical Obesity Management and Quality Outcomes,” John D. Birkmeyer, MD, George D. Zuidema Professor of Surgery, University of Michigan Health Systems;
“Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in Obesity Management, “ Patrick M. O’Neil, PhD, Director, Weight Management Center, Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Medical University of South Carolina; and
“Pediatric Obesity Management and Co-Morbidities,” Sonia Caprio, MD, Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Yale University School of Medicine.
SJMO Department of Medicine Chair Dr. Usman Master is chair of the event. Also on the program are Vice President of Mission and Ethics Ann Suziedelis, SJMO President and CEO Jack Weiner, Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Donald Bignotti and Chief of Staff Dr. Nitin Doshi.
Planning the event are Silbergleit Clinic Day committee members and SJMO physicians: Dr. Silbergleit, honorary chair; Dr. Master; Dr. Frank Bagnasco, Chair, SJMO Continuing Medical Education Committee; Dr. Benjamin Diaczok, Program Director, Internal medicine Residency; Dr. Jacob Roberts, General and Bariatric Surgeon, Michigan Bariatric Institute; Dr. Neelakantam Jolepalem, Chair, Department of Behavioral Medicine; and Dr. Tom Rifai, Medical Director, Metabolic Nutrition and Weight Management Program.
Registration and continental breakfast are at 7:30 a.m., and the program begins at 8. Luncheon will be served at 12:30 pm.
