The Michigan Bariatric Institute offers four options for Bariatric weight loss surgery, including laparoscopic gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, adjustable gastric banding and duodenal switch. Bariatric surgery is a minimal surgical approach to treating obesity and is performed laparoscopically, resulting in minimal
pain, less scarring, shorter hospitalization and recovery time. Patients can lose up to 70 percent of their excess body weight in the first year. This can benefit morbidly obese patients resolving many of their associated health problems including diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, joint pain, certain cancers and premature death.
