The Keystone Project is a statewide initiative that is being conducted in collaboration with the Michigan Hospital Association and Johns Hopkins Research and Safety Group. The focus of the 3 year project is Patient Safety and is based on a combination of application of evidence based Medicine and quality improvement efforts. Here at SJMH-Ann Arbor, our SICU, MICU and CCU are fully participating as well as the CCU at SJMH-Livingston. The goal of the project is to reduce errors and improve patient outcomes in the ICU's.
Four interventions have been implemented since the project began in 2004. These include:
- Patient Safety Program and Incident Reporting
- Elimination of catheter related blood stream infections
- Improving the care of the ventilated patient
- Implementing multidisciplinary rounds with identification of daily goals for each patient.
