Title
Atrial Fibrillation A to Z: Options for Care
Start Date
04/16/2012
Article
Seminar available for anyone interested in learning more about the latest management and treatment options for atrial fibrillation

Join cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. Manak Sood, and cardiologist Dr. Timothy Shinn from Michigan Heart & Vascular Institute and Saint Joseph Mercy Health System (SJMHS) as they discuss the latest management and treatment options for atrial fibrillation.

The free Atrial Fibrillation Seminar will take place Saturday, April 21 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Johnson Center located on the campus of Cleary University: 3725 Cleary Drive in Howell.

Atrial fibrillation (A-fib) is estimated to affect more than two million Americans and is the most common type of abnormal heart rhythm in the elderly. If left untreated, A-fib can lead to stroke and congestive heart failure. While treatment options in the past have been limited to medication and invasive surgery, doctors at St. Joe’s have teamed up to offer a unique, minimally invasive surgical approach, called the Wolf-Mini-Maze, to potentially cure A-fib.

Topics discussed at the seminar include general information about A-fib, discussion of treatment options, stroke prevention, obstructive sleep apnea, and an extensive question and answer session

Light breakfast and refreshments will be served; space is limited and registration is required. The conference will run approximately five hours. To register, please call 800-231-2211 or visit mhvi.org
