Our Resident Research Program

Program Overview

Excellence in patient care is paramount. We believe that a well-trained internist should be able to translate research to evidence based practice therefore improving patient care.

Program Highlights

Our program is focused on guiding and mentoring residents that are motivated and enthusiastic in finding a niche in research.A unique academic plan will be developed for each resident based on prior research experience, career goals and duration of training at SJMH.  Supportive faculty and accessible research department create an environment conducive for excellence in scholarly activity.

  • On site statistician

  • Opportunity for in house non-pharmaceutical funding
  • Assistance in review, critiquing and editing of abstracts and protocols
  • Residency research committee to evaluate projects for funding and provide constructive critique
  • Resident participation in the residency reseach committee

Our Success:
With our structured research model we have been able to steadily increase our productivity in our scholarly pursuits. We have had multiple abstract submissions with national and local recognition. In addition there has also been an increase in national presentations and publications and awards.

1st and 2nd place oral presentation at Associates ACP

Director of Clinical Research

Dr. Anupam Suneja completed his medical education at Delhi University in India.  He completed his residency and chief residency at Flushing Hospital Medical Center in New York.  After completing his Masters in Public Health with a major in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and Geriatric fellowship at Boston University, he served as faculty member at Boston University School of Medicine.  He moved to St. Joseph Mercy (Ann Arbor) after being an Associate Program Director for many years at Wayne State University.  His main interest is to develop research structure to facilitate resident research.
