Saint Joseph Mercy Health System hospitals earn top recognition from The Joint Commission

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – (Nov. 5, 2013) – Four hospitals in the Saint Joseph Mercy Health System were named Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America. St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland, St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron and St. Mary Mercy Livonia were recognized by The Joint Commission for exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care and, in the case of St. Joseph Mercy Oakland, stroke.

“Having so many of our hospitals recognized speaks volumes about the level of care that we provide across southeastern Michigan," says Garry Faja, regional president and CEO, Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. "Creating a remarkable patient care experience takes the focus of the entire organization—physicians, nurses and staff. We are proud to be recognized for the great strides we have made in achieving higher quality standards.”

These four hospitals in Saint Joseph Mercy Health System are one of 1,099 hospitals in the U.S. earning the distinction of Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance. The ratings are based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2012 calendar year.

“These four hospitals in Saint Joseph Mercy Health System and all the Top Performer hospitals have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to quality improvement and they should be proud of their achievement,” says Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., president and chief executive officer, The Joint Commission.
