Saint Joseph Mercy Health System opens second ED in Livingston County at newly named St. Joseph Mercy Brighton

BRIGHTON, Mich. – To better serve the health needs of Brighton and surrounding communities, Saint Joseph Mercy Health System (SJMHS) is pleased to announce that its 24/7 emergency department has opened at the newly named health center at 7575 Grand River Avenue in Brighton. This is the second emergency department in Livingston County – both operated by SJMHS.

St. Joseph Mercy Woodland Health Center is now St. Joseph Mercy Brighton. As Saint Joseph Mercy Health System has grown throughout southeast Michigan, location and facility names have been changed to provide consistency.

St. Joseph Mercy Brighton’s emergency department (ED) is under the direction of Dr. Robert Fields, medical director; and Dr. Pam Eaton, associate medical director. It is equipped to serve many needs, including chest pain and other cardiac emergencies.

Benefits include:
· 24-hour coverage
· Board certified or board eligible emergency physicians
· Specially trained emergency nurses
· Onsite 24/7 lab and radiology services
· Ability to contact specialty physicians (cardiology, pediatrics)
· Transfer of patients (via Medflight or ground ambulance) to other system hospitals for admission or specialty services

“With emergency departments at both St. Joseph Mercy Brighton and St. Joseph Mercy Livingston in Howell, the health system is providing unparalleled coverage and access to vital emergency care services for Livingston and Western Oakland County residents,” says Rob Casalou, president and CEO, St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor, Livingston and Saline.

For non-emergency needs, SJMHS is pleased that IHA (Integrated Health Associates) is expanding to open a new After Hours Care program. Beginning on Aug. 2, patients can be seen next door to St. Joseph Mercy Brighton at the Genoa Medical Center on weekdays from 5 – 9 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays. The IHA After Hours Care program will be prepared to treat minor illnesses and injuries, such as sore throats, ear aches, coughs, sprains and small lacerations in a high quality, timely and cost sensitive manner.

“We are pleased our colleagues at IHA are extending their hours to help serve the community’s less urgent needs. This expands options for residents in the area,” adds Casalou.

Patients can reach St. Joseph Mercy Brighton at 810-844-7511 and IHA After Hours Care beginning in August at 810-494-6810.

St. Joseph Mercy Brighton has been providing health care services to the community for more than 20 years, first on Grand River next to Meijer, and since 1996 when it moved to its current location.
