Vision Therapy

What We Do

Vision Rehabilitation Occupational therapists assess and treat individuals with visual deficits related to neurological conditions (stroke, brain injury, MS), traumas, age-related changes, or low vision.

Vision rehabilitation may be able to help you if you have had:

  • Changes in vision after a stroke or head injury:
    • Double vision
    • Difficulty Reading
    • Eyestrain
    • Impaired Visual Spatial Skills
  • Low Vision changes related to Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, Diabetes or Trauma

Our comprehensive vision testing includes:

  • Acuity
  • Oculomotor Function
  • Binocular Skills
  • Eye Alignment
  • Visual Fields
  • Neglect
  • Depth Perception
  • Visual Perceptual Skills

Test results are used to formulate an individualized care plan that addresses the specific visual needs of each patient. Referral to a neuro-optometrist or ophthalmologist is made as appropriate.

Occupational therapy focuses on maximizing the ability of patients with visual deficits to live independently and safely perform everyday tasks such as showering, dressing, shopping, managing money, and getting around within their home and community.

What type of treatment is provided?

Visual/Perceptual Rehabilitation that includes clinical assessment and training for deficits in oculomotor function, visual motor coordination, depth perception, visual spatial and visual perceptual function as they relate to activities of daily living.

Low Vision Home Assessments of activities of daily living and safety within a person's home environment. The occupational therapist provides training and education in:

  • Low vision aids and techniques
  • Adapting the environment to enhance independence and safety
  • Resources for the visually impaired

Who is eligible?

A physician referral is required for insurance coverage of occupational therapy vision rehabilitation or low vision evaluation.
