Chelsea Community Hospital Children's Center - Preschool Program
Our Preschool Program is designed for children who are 3 and toilet-trained up until they begin kindergarten. The program is organized into specific learning areas. The areas provide for art, science, block play, dramatic play, table toys, language arts, music, math, and large muscle activities. The program incorporates a schedule which alternates quiet with active play, solitary with group play, indoor with outdoor play, and child-directed with teacher-directed activities. This schedule allows the child to participate in different types of experiences, assures him/her of a certain routine so he/she will feel secure, yet flexible enough to be changed as the needs of the group or individual warrant it. During group time, the teacher has an opportunity to formally instruct the child in specific concepts and to sequence learning for individual children. The group activities provide a quiet time and help him/her to comply with the wishes of others, both children and adults.
