The Older Adult Recovery Center (OARC) is a program of Chelsea Community Hospital that offers a continuum of chemical dependency services specifically designed to meet the needs of older adults.
The program's content is sensitive to older adults who may be struggling with age-related difficulties such as health, retirement, isolation, grieving, or other issues. The pace of the program can be tailored to meet the specific needs of older adults by varying the treatment intensity and duration. The OARC program places a major focus on providing older adults with substance abuse education, recovery tools and strategies, and a long term plan for maintaining recovery and continued support.

Standard Outpatient Treatment
Specialized outpatient treatment for older adults is available in Chelsea, Michigan at the Older Adult Recovery Center (O.A.R.C.- The "ARC"). A multidisciplinary staff provides treatment geared towards older adults that includes individual, group, and family therapy. Outpatient therapy usually consists of group and individual therapy provided once a week, and family treatment is often encouraged.
Our physicians and staff provide the specialized care needed to detoxify an older adult on either an outpatient or an inpatient basis depending upon medical necessity.
Intensive Outpatient Program
Isolation is often the hallmark symptom of chemical dependency in older adults. The Intensive Outpatient Program at the Older Adult Recovery Center in Chelsea provides socialization and structure as part of age-specific chemical dependency treatment. A multidisciplinary staff provides treatment geared towards older adults that includes individual, group, and family therapy, as well as education and support groups. Addiction, aging, grief and inter-generational issues are discussed. Recovering older adults volunteer in the program and provide support and comaraderie for newly recovering older adults. Age -friendly self-help support groups are also on site.
